Has boosted lowered their standards?
I have put thousands of miles on several boards but, out of everything I have ridden, I have always placed Boosted Boards at the top of my list for build quality and customer support. When they announced the 3rd generation of boards I didn't think twice about purchasing a Mini X and a Stealth. Unfortunately I have been disappointed with the quality and customer service I have received and, based on all the articles and videos coming out, I am not the only one.
Here's my story:
Two days and 15 miles after receiving my Boosted Mini X, the motor controller for one wheel failed. Eventually Boosted acknowledged the issue and had me send the board back for repairs. While I lost some faith in the quality after having to send it back after 15 miles, at least it was taken care of and I was back on my board 2 weeks later.
Then I received my Boosted Stealth. Its fast, it rides smooth, and initially it exceeded all of my expectations. After about 20 miles I started to notice a slight vibration and a faint clicking noise but nothing alarming so I kept riding. At around 40 miles I started to notice the belt quickly shifting from side to side depending on the direction of the motor and at 50 miles I wore through the first belt. I replaced the belt and continued to ride but the vibration got worse, the clicking sound became very noticeable and then I started to loose breaking power with a sound that made me think the belt was stripped. When I went to replace the belt I noticed a wobble in the motor shaft and contacted support. After waiting 7 days , well beyond their 48 to 72 hour stated window, I received a canned response that belts are not covered with a link to buy new belts. I have now sent 2 follow up emails with videos stating its a bent motor shaft, not a belt issue, but no response going on 2 weeks. I'm guessing their support staff is inundated with similar issues.
What happened to the customer service and responsiveness Boosted was known for? And more importantly, what happened to the build quality that lasted thousands of miles? I hope that Boosted corrects the issues and gets back to the brand they were known to be. I will update this article as the story progresses but please leave your comments and similar issues below.
10/2/2018 UPDATE: Boosted acknowledged the bent motor shaft and is sending a replacement motor when they are in stock.
10/25/2018 UPDATE: Replacement motors are still back ordered with no estimated delivery date. Although the board is ride-able it sounds like a lawnmower and I seem to wear through belts every 50 miles.
